Essential Digital Marketing Trends in 2019

Essential Digital Marketing Trends in 2019

In 2018, we saw the triumph of digital marketing strategies that defined market niche through producing relatable content and targeted audience through engaging video stories.

The rule of the game last year was to create more personal relations with customers. The aim was to foster an engaged community not just of consumers, but of brand supporters as well.

There are three major digital marketing aspects that are essential if companies want to maintain an impressive brand image this 2019. First is using data science and artificial intelligence (AI). Second is achieving a greater degree of personalization and intimacy for and with customers. And third is making the most out of different media to create more convenience in consumer experience.

Take Advantage of AI and Data Science

Remember that in any plan and strategy, what gets to be measured can be managed.

Artificial intelligence can do wonders for your company, from helping you create a solid digital marketing campaign to targeting more specific audiences. One benefit of AI is the ability to extract patterns which can then be converted into actionable insights; such patterns may include product consumption in different market segments, peak hours of user activity on your website or social media accounts, or even which kinds of content get the most engagement from your audience.

Extracted patterns can also be helpful in suggesting content that users might like. Netflix and Spotify use data science and AI to recommend content to a user based on what that user previously watched or listened to. By analyzing data about the kind of shows and music subscribers consume, AI can compile a list of very relevant suggestions.

AI can also help you improve online customer service. Chatbots are software that mimic conversations, providing automatic and real-time responses to frequently asked questions about your business.

To maximize your website and social media accounts, it is best to set up and review their analytics reporting monthly. Remember that in any plan and strategy, what gets to be measured can be managed.

Personalize More and Create Intimacy Between Your Brand and Your Audience

They now prefer the authenticity of sharing experiences over the popularity of endorsers.

As choices for brands and products become continuously and immensely varied, the need to be outstanding, specific, and relatable are now essential for any advertising effort.

Influencer marketing has now become a reliable advertising component that can deliver quantitative results. Consumers are becoming more intelligent.

They now prefer the authenticity of sharing experiences over the popularity of endorsers. Audiences respond better if an influencer’s stories of brand experiences are sincere.

Also, if mass email blasts are a thing before, messaging through social media apps for businesses is now an emerging trend. The number of Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and WeChat’s combined users surpasses Facebook and YouTube’s combined users. This means that companies can now start to explore in using these more personal platforms for advertisements.

Video stories are still on the rise, and creating them now demands more creativity and novelty of content. You can find opportunities to create more video stories that cater to micro moments. As defined by Google, a micro moment is “an intent rich moment when a person turns to a device to act on a need – to know, go, do, or buy.” The challenge for companies is how to immediately and appropriately respond to these micro moments.

When looking for the right brand ambassadors for your business, ensure that they have an understanding of your business goals and of how they can generate traffic and engagements for you.

Make the Most Out of Different Media to Enrich Consumer Experience

With the proliferation of image searches and voice assistants, digital marketing is on to a new level.

For several years now, it has been possible to search the web by uploading an image, so users can find related images or web pages that contain information about something in the image; for example, a person, an object, a brand name.

Figures show that more and more people are now using digital assistants like Siri, Alexa, Cortana, and Google to find things on the web, including products and services.

These advances make the web experience more convenient and efficient. Companies who are thinking of new strategies on improving their brand image online should make the most out of these different media in their digital marketing strategies.

It is important to ensure that content searches on your online platforms are easy to navigate. Don’t forget to tweak your online platform settings for this. Remember also to always check all the rules and requirements before uploading images and videos to your online platform accounts.

Do you need help in executing your digital marketing plans and web development projects for 2019? We are here to support you grow your business.

Internet Usage for Seniors and Retirees: Second Run

Internet Usage for Seniors and Retirees: Second Run

It’s Grandparents’ Day on September 9 and as we continue our advocacy to educate the Filipino community in Information Technology we invite our lolos and lolas to this webinar (using Facebook Live) about the benefits and dangers of using the internet and the web. It’s happening this Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Join the webinar: https://goo.gl/NCEbsv or be part of the #techieseniors community https://goo.gl/kn9hig

From managing internet connection in mobile gadgets to becoming a digital citizen, is Kairos’ core drive for the 2nd run of its free Internet Usage for Seniors and Retirees Seminar held last April 21 at the Globe Tower, Bonifacio Global City.

Kairos was thankful for Mr. Kurt Silvano and NEXT GEN IT’s technical assistance to the participants all throughout the seminar. They eagerly guided our seniors in the exercises. Also, the event would not have been possible if not for Globe’s generosity in letting us use their state of the art seminar rooms for free. And we cannot thank McDonald’s enough, for providing snacks the second time around, for our volunteers and participants.

Familiar and new faces attended the seminar. Almost a third of the participants from the first part of the Internet Usage for Seniors and Retirees attended the second part. Some of them even brought friends and former colleagues to the event. Without a doubt, the seniors and retirees wanted to share the rich experience that they had from the first run.

While the first run of the seminar explored the possibilities that using the internet offers for seniors and retirees, the second run expounded on those possibilities and gave an introductory know-how in its realization.

The first exercise for the seniors in the seminar was to create a new email account and send an email to their seatmate. Without difficulty, all the participants successfully completed the exercise.

Another convenient topic discussed was using e-commerce websites and applications. As example, the seniors were taught how to download and use McDonald’s Philippines McDelivery mobile app. The seniors had fun knowing that ordering fast-food is now as easy as clicking buttons on their phone screens.

One of the highlights of the seminar was teaching the seniors and retirees on how to create simple blogs that can be used as online shops.

There is a popular notion that when our elders retire from work, they are also retiring from being busy and productive. Contrary to that, almost all participants in the second run of the seminar were there to find a fruitful online activity that can give them a continuing source of income.

“Gusto kong kumita pa rin sa real estate. Nachachallenge ako. Walang nagtuturo sa akin. Gusto ko matuto ng digital marketing kaya ako umattend dito,” from Jimmy Banadera, an accountant for eighteen years.

“I work in DOT at malapit na ring magretire. Sumali ako rito to learn how to have an online business.” Espie, one of the upcoming retirees explained why she attended the seminar.

And one of the proofs that learning something new never gets old is Dory Guevarra. At eighty-two years old, she is the youngest at heart among the participants.

With eagerness, she expressed her enthusiasm for the seminar, “Salamat kay Koree at ginaguide niya talaga kami at mabutingting siya sa pagtingin kung tama ba yung ginagawa namin. Hindi tayo laging bata kaya kung halimbawang hindi na tayo makalakad, kung marunong tayo sa internet, pwede pa tayo magtrabaho sa bahay online. Gusto ko ng third part na formal schooling sa computer for the seniors.”

“Malulugi ang GSIS sa atin dahil gusto pa natin magtrabaho kahit lagpas na sa retiring age,” she jokingly added.

As Koree Monteloyola, founder and senior web developer of Kairos I.T. Services emphasized, “In this age of ceaseless technological advancements, we must not merely be Filipino citizens. We have to be digital citizens as well.”

The seminar ended with a contest to see how fast seniors can Google to verify a piece of information. And with certainty, the seniors and retirees now have the capacity to access any information at any time and with any gadget they have.

Techie Senior Citizens and Retirees Philippines

Techie Senior Citizens and Retirees Philippines

Last February 24, 31 participants from different provinces of the Philippines attended Kairos IT Services’ Internet Usage for Senior Citizens and Retirees Seminar at the Audio-Visual Room of UP Diliman National Engineering Center. The event was from 10am to 2pm and was sponsored by Mc Donald’s.

As way of giving back, the seminar was the second free seminar that Kairos had conducted since last year. While majority of the participants came from Metro Manila, there were those that came from the provinces. Husband and wife retirees, Mrs. Editha and Mr. Renaldo Cabello, have come all the way from Mindoro just to attend the seminar. “Sulit naman ang pag-attend namin ng seminar kahit na mahal ang pamasahe naming mag-asawa,” Mrs. Editha Cabello said.

The seniors and retirees have learned a lot of beneficial information about the internet. The most helpful for them were knowing how to make their internet experience more secure, how to manage their data usage, and how to download useful and entertaining apps in their mobile phone.

When asked about what they have remembered in the seminar, Evelyn Basas said that “Magpalit lagi ng password provided na wag kalimutan ito. Ang pag-gawa ng password contains letters with numbers to avoid hacking emails.” For Estrella Sarigumba, being cautious in giving out personal information made a lasting impression. She said that “Di ko makalimutan ang tinuro ni Ma’am na huwag basta magtiwala lalo na sa mga humihingi ng bank account number.”

As for Marian Llana, the seminar has made her think twice before commenting on negative opinions and ideas she sees online, “Marami akong nakuhang tips most especially about courtesy and self-restraint. Kasi there are times that I want to give my opinion which I’m sure will create a lot of unfriendly reactions. Ngayon, medyo smile na lang sa nababasa.”

Some even realized the possible contribution of the internet in their sense of self. Like what Paula Ventura said, “The experience made me realize that the virtual world is going to be a big part of the next generation. And my life, as senior citizen, should still have value if I know how to communicate with them.”

“…the virtual world is going to be a big part of the next generation. And my life, as senior citizen, should still have value if I know how to communicate with them.” – Paula Ventura

While it is common assumption that senior citizens are afraid of technology, the participants of this seminar are proof that this is not always the case. As Koree Monteloyola, founder of Kairos I.T. Services and speaker of the seminar enthusiastically recounted, “The participants were very enthusiastic. Muntik ng mabitin sa oras para sa presentation dahil ang dami nilang tanong.” Most of the participants are already requesting for a second part of the seminar. (Register for Part Two of Internet Usage for Senior Citizens and Retirees Seminar)

Because of the seminar, a Facebook group called Techie Senior Citizens and Retirees Philippines was created to serve as a support group for the participants. The group aims to help the participants remember and practice all the know-hows that they have learned in the seminar. It also serves as a platform for retirees and senior citizens to share and discuss their discoveries and experiences in using the internet.

Internet Usage for Senior Citizens and Retirees Seminar in Manila, Philippines

The participants are not the only ones who have learned something from the seminar. The Kairos team has also learned a lot from this experience. We have learned that the seniors and retirees have no idea of how they can harness the web’s power. We have realized that if the seniors know how to use the internet wisely, they can help shape the situation that we are all in right now. Like the 81-year-old female Japanese who just created a mobile app, anything is possible for them.

The seniors and retirees that we have today came from a generation of hard-working individuals. Most of them are now leaders in their families and communities. With the wisdom that they have combined with technological adeptness, they can help us shape the future of the Philippine web. If they can effectively lead offline, imagine how unstoppable they are if they can also lead online.

Kairos I.T. Services would like to thank McDonald’s Philippines and the National Engineering Center for supporting us on our day of charity and sharing.

2018 Trends In Digital Marketing You Need To Keep In Mind

2018 Trends In Digital Marketing You Need To Keep In Mind

For 2017, everyone saw the power of how video stories made digital content engaging. This 2018, stories are still part of the package. If you want to reap rewards for your online marketing efforts this year, you have to focus on authentic storytelling and targeted personalized marketing.

Of course, there are also other aspects and efforts closely related to storytelling to consider. To make the best of your digital branding attempts this year, here are six essential trends to keep in mind.

Target Specific Niche and Personalize

Now more than ever, the mass marketing strategy is really dead. With a huge amount of web content to be consumed and devoured, you cannot expect people to waste their time. No one has enough time to see everything on the net. The key is to create content that is tailored-fit for each of your audience segment. With this, you are sure to capture your audience interests and draw engagement from them. To begin, you may use existing data in your website and social media to know who your niche audiences are.

Quality Isn’t Enough, Values and Causes Are Also Essential

Having Millennials and the Generation Z as the topmost consumers of digital content, your brand should know what matters to most of them. Based on a 2015 study by Cone Communications, 91% of millennials would switch to brands that are associated with at least one cause. The more you are clear on what values and causes your brand espouses, the more you can get a following among these digital natives. In today’s world, it is high time to recognize that businesses must start to co-create with their consumers. Your business must begin to embrace values that not only help drive more profit but also help the world at large.

Create Authentic Content

There’s a reason why videos has been big in digital marketing last year. An obvious one is that, video production is creating authentic content. And it is one of the most engaging contents that can be published on the web. Keep in mind that you have to be creative and original in creating content for your website or social media. Experiment on videos, interactive quizzes, or simple apps, if you can and want to. There are a lot of online tools available that will help you with this. The goal is that for your published content to be shared all over the net.

Amp Up Your Video Stories

With the soaring popularity of Snapchat, IG Stories, FB Stories, and YouTube Reels, videos as a platform for storytelling will never be the same again. Be more imaginative in using videos as a channel of advertising your brand. Getting brand influencers is a good idea if the influencer you’ve gotten naturally and effortlessly resonates with your brand. Plan your video series well. Also, try to maximize the power of live videos as it gives a semblance of urgency and ephemerality. Live videos of events make the experience more accessible and real to remote audiences. This accessibility and realness make participation and engagement easier for your followers and audiences.

Use Immersive and Interactive Platforms in Your Campaigns

If you really want engagement from your consumers, think about ways on how to be more interactive and use immersive platforms to execute campaigns. Do you remember the phenomenon that is Pokemon GO? Yes, that type of being immersive and interactive is what we are talking about here. Big companies are already maximizing this avenue in their marketing strategies. You can start small by experimenting on chatbots on your social media and website. You may also think about simple apps that can help you make your brand popular. Good examples of this are New York Times virtual storytelling and L’Oreal’s makeup tester app.

Make Everything Mobile Fit

According to the latest Ericsson South East Asia and Oceania regional Ericsson Mobility Report, smartphone use in the Philippines this year will increase to a dramatic 70%. This means that majority of websites and applications are increasingly viewed and experienced via mobile gadgets. Thus, it is highly important to ensure that your website is mobile-friendly. Start by having a responsive web design so that your website can fit any gadget screen size. Also, your website should easily load on a mobile gadget. Keep in mind that people in the web are always in a hurry. So, fast and simple is always the way to go.

January has ended and we’re already at the second week of February. This is a precisely good moment to keep your digital marketing efforts in check and to secure that everything is still aligned with your overall marketing plans and strategies for the year ahead.

If you are at a loss in doing digital branding for your business, you can start by reaching us through (02) 8734-4236 / (+63) 929-782-1647 and info@kairos.ph. We’ll be glad to walk you through the process, step by step.

Enjoying Retirement Through Learning the Internet

Enjoying Retirement Through Learning the Internet

Here in the Philippines, retirement is an eventful life stage that every hard-working Filipino awaits. And even for housewives and househusbands, getting towards the retirement age is still something to look forward to.

As they say, life begins at sixty. And for our mothers, fathers, lolos, lolas, titos, and titas, life can really get exciting at this age. At sixty, you get to enjoy a lot of things: your grandchildren, more time for your self, free movies courtesy of your local government, and discounts in restaurants and other establishments. However, amongst the multitude of things that a retiree can enjoy, one thing seems to arouse a skeptical attitude from them – the internet.

Internet As a Foreign Terrain for Seniors

Although it is not surprising to see our lolos and lolas in social media, using the internet is still a foreign terrain for a significant part of our seniors. The most common and valid reason is hearing unfortunate stories about online dangers like bank fraud and identity theft. Yet, a part of those who are fearless in exploring this uncharted territory, still doesn’t have a well-informed way of using it. Some of our techie seniors may appear to be social media savvy but may not know anything about malware and phishing.

Possibilities that the Internet Offers for Retirees

The internet offers unlimited possibilities especially for people moving towards the retirement age. It is a rich source of information to keep us abreast on current news and issues. Through social media, keeping in touch with our family and friends has been so much easier. It also offers the convenience of shopping and paying our bills without leaving the comfort of our homes. It gives limitless access to our favorite movies, songs, series, and other entertainment sources anytime and anywhere. Also, if you are thinking of finding more productive endeavors apart from just enjoying retirement, you can take online courses or find online jobs that suit your schedule well.

Precautionary Tips on Using the Internet

While the internet has a lot to offer, we must keep in mind that it is still a virtual world and what appears to be true may not always be true. As a precaution, here are some points to remember when using the internet.

First, let’s talk about passwords. You must not divulge your online accounts’ passwords to anyone. No company will ask for this unless you need to log in to your account. Keep you passwords long. Make sure that it contains different characters. Apart from alphabets, put some numbers and other characters. Also use both upper case and lower case in creating your passwords. Use different passwords for different online accounts.

Second, avoid phishing by being cautious in filling out forms and giving out personal details. Phishing encourages you to divulge personal information that can be used in hacking your account for malicious reasons. Don’t just easily fill out forms that requires personal details such as bank accounts, address, mobile numbers, and birthdays. Ensure that you really need to fill out the form before doing so.

Third, don’t open spam emails and links that says you have won something or that offers promotions and gifts. This can get you to malicious web sites.

Fourth and an important one, install an anti-virus software and ensure that it is up to date. This will help you avoid malware that you can get from using the internet. Malware or malicious software can seriously and completely damage your computers and gadgets if it gets out of control.

Fifth, if you are wary about online shopping, it is best to verify the credibility of the business. You may visit their physical store. You may also contact them through their mobile and phone numbers before having any kind of transaction.

Sixth, to avoid fake news, don’t immediately believe information that you read on social media. As with other information, you need to verify it through checking for more reliable sources such as websites of reputable newspapers and academic institutions.

Unfortunate stories about the internet really exists. However, if we take the necessary safeguards, we can enjoy the possibilities that it offers especially in our retirement. For what its worth, amidst its dangers and complexities, the internet is worth-knowing.

Thank you for an overwhelming response to our seminar invitation. We appreciate your enthusiasm in learning something new. With this, we are looking forward to our fruitful discussion on the benefits and safeguards of using the internet. As a way of giving back to our community, clients, and supporters, this seminar as we have said, is free and lunch will be served.
